La rotura de la presa de Vega de Tera aguas arriba ocasionó la destrucción parcial del pueblo falleciendo 144 personas. Esta estatua representa la foto tomada en aquellos momentos.
Hoy pudo haber sucedido una catástrofe diferente, un incendio potente estuvo cerca del pueblo, sus vecinos tuvieron que ser desalojados por el peligro que representaba no solo el fuego sino también el humo que hacía el aire irrespirable.
Parece que este tipo de catástrofes suceden siempre en los mismos lugares.
