PAISAJES DESPUÉS DE UN INCENDIO - LANDSCAPES AFTER A FIRE

 

ENTORNO DEL CAÑÓN DEL RÍO FORCADURA  - ENVIRONMENT OF THE FORCADURA RIVER CANYON

Llevo varios días dudando si subir a la sierra y a la laguna de los Peces para ver el destrozo causado por los incendios en el entorno del Parque Natural del lago de Sanabria, finalmente me decidí, porque sabiendo como evolucionó el incendio va a tardar el paisaje en recuperarse, así me armé de valor dispuesto a encontrarme con el paisaje ennegrecido.

I've been hesitating for several days whether to climb the mountains and the Laguna de los Peces to see the destruction caused by the fires around the Sanabria Lake Natural Park. I finally decided, because knowing how the fire evolved, it will take a while for the landscape to recover, so I gathered my courage, ready to face the blackened landscape.

Comencé la subida por la carretera de la laguna de los Peces, llegué a San Martín de Castañeda y los alrededores estaban como suele ser lo habitual, aunque más adelante vi algunas zonas quemadas. Pero al llegar a un lugar que yo conozco como la Chana todo comenzó a cambiar. Había una parte verde donde pacían unos caballos, pero el resto todo negro.

I began the climb up the Laguna de los Peces road. I arrived at San Martín de Castañeda, and the surrounding area was as it usually is, although further on I saw some burned areas. But when I reached a place I know as La Chana, everything began to change. There was a green area where some horses were grazing, but the rest was all black.

 Unos metros más arriba paré en el mirador del cañón del río Forcadura, y ahí si que me impactó ver las consecuencias y el alcance del incendio. Se corresponde con la primera foto.

A few meters further up, I stopped at the Forcadura River Canyon lookout point, and I was truly shocked to see the consequences and extent of the fire. It's the same as the first photo.

Continué la subida, todo estaba negro, tanto  a la derecha como a la izquierda. Saqué una foto, donde creo que se puede apreciar la potencia del fuego, que ha dejado el suelo sin ninguna vegetación, con suelo a la vista y sin ningún rastro de brezo que es el matorral más abundante en la zona.

I continued uphill, and everything was black, both to the right and left. I took a photo, where I think you can see the power of the fire, which has left the ground bare of any vegetation, with bare soil and no trace of heather, the most abundant shrub in the area.

NEGRURA TOTAL - TOTAL BLACKNESS

 Llegué al aparcamiento y salvo algunas zonas donde estaba paciendo el ganado y otra cercana a la laguna predominaba el negro.

I arrived at the parking lot and except for some areas where cattle were grazing and another area near the lagoon, the color was predominantly black.

LA LAGUNA DE LOS PECES - THE FISH LAGOON

Bajé caminando hasta el muro de la laguna, desde allí hay un sendero hasta la laguna de Yeguas, pero viendo el paisaje ya sabía lo que me podía encontrar, así que regresé al aparcamiento.

I walked down to the lagoon wall; from there, there's a path to the Yeguas lagoon, but seeing the landscape, I already knew what I could find, so I returned to the parking lot.

At the bottom you can see the path to the Yeguas lagoon.

De regreso paré a tomar unas fotos panorámicas de San Martín de  Castañeda y del lago de Sanabria.

On the way back I stopped to take some panoramic photos of San Martín de Castañeda and Lake Sanabria.

PANORÁMICA 

Ahora sólo queda esperar que las lluvias sean suaves y empapen el terreno para que se pueda recuperar este paisaje tan especial y podamos subir a la montaña para caminar por las rutas que nos ofrece este Parque Natural, unos irán hasta Peña Trevinca, otros hasta Tres Burros, o a la laguna de Lacillo a los pies del pico Montalvo, la ruta más corta a la laguna de Yeguas o hasta la fuente del arroyo de la Cuchilla... En definitiva que la naturaleza haga su labor y ojalá lleguemos primaveras como la de este año.

Now we just have to wait for the rains to be gentle and soak the ground so that this special landscape can be recovered and we can climb the mountain to walk along the routes that this Natural Park offers us, some will go to Peña Trevinca, others to Tres Burros, or to the Lacillo lagoon at the foot of Montalvo peak, the shortest route to the Yeguas lagoon or to the source of the Cuchilla stream... In short, let nature do its work and hopefully we will have springs like this year's.
